We have an excellent opportunity for you to join the Madrid P&C team as a Trainee Property Facultative Underwriter.

The role / Key responsibilities

The company provides Trainee Underwriters with real autonomy and a high level of responsibility from the start of their career. With the support of a highly experienced team, our underwriters seek out business opportunities through regular marketing activities and evaluate complex risk scenarios, offering risk transfer solutions to our clients. Successful underwriters acquire in-depth knowledge of clients in order to develop and implement a sales and marketing strategy for the companies for which they are responsible.

You will be responsible for the marketing and underwriting of Property facultative business in the Spanish and Portuguese markets, soliciting new opportunities and handling new and renewal accounts, transacting the fac product directly with our client base.

  • As a direct underwriter you will be out in the market, educating potential clients on our products, building and maintaining relationships, soliciting new opportunities, and managing a diverse book of business.
  • You will be required to develop strong technical underwriting skills in a broad range of Property classes of business such as; Engineering, Energy, Commercial, Personal Lines and other specialty classes.
  • Technical responsibilities that include underwriting, pricing, deal structuring and negotiating facultative individual risk and bundled reinsurance schemes.

Qualifications & Experience

  • Fluent in Spanish, English and French or Italian. You will be expected to provide support to territories that speak some or all of those languages
  • Strong numerical, research and analytical skills.
  • Excellent interpersonal, negotiation and communication skills with the capacity to work effectively in a collaborative team environment.  This will include a willingness to contribute to the wider company community.
  • Entrepreneurial spirit, proactive attitude, and ability to make decisions. Sense of ownership and ambition. Confidence to question and challenge.
  • Intellectual curiosity, interest in industrial processes, how things are created and economic trends. Continuous learning attitude.
  • Strong IT skills. Microsoft Office is essential. The ideal candidate would have autonomy on IT systems and is able to provide new skills to the team (programming, system management, advanced Excel skills etc)
  • A university degree in Engineering or Business Administration is a good fit for this role, however, we are open to other degrees and non-graduates should they have the languages, skills and potential required, as well as an interest in working in the Insurance industry.
  • Experience in re/insurance, understanding of contracts, policy forms and terms and conditions would be desirable but not essential.
